Tigerlily launches debut Accessories Collection
Published by Tigerlily
Meet Ana Maria Escobar, the creative visionary behind Tigerlily’s debut accessories collection for Spring 19. With over 14 years of experience and some impressive titles under her belt, notably the former Creative Director of Oroton, the Colombian born and raised designer has forged her name as a leader in the international fashion space.
Tigerlily chose to collaborate with Ana Maria to bring their debut accessories collection to life. We spoke with Ana Maria about collaborating with Tigerlily on the accessories collection and took a look inside her handbag!
When did you start working on the collection for Tigerlily and what was the inspiration behind it?
I started working on the collection April this year. When designing accessories is important to keep your narrative and inspiration close to the brand DNA, so natural materials, easy-to-wear styling and endless holidays where part of the inspiration whilst keeping close to trends and colour play.
What are the bags made from?
The bags are made from beautiful soft pebble grained leathers with Italian vachetta trimmings, colourful soft to touch suedes and natural straws woven using traditional artisanal techniques. We have also created bespoke hardware and amulets as a signature Tigerlily touch.
How would you describe the collection in five words?
Eternal Holiday, Essentials, Laid-back, Feminine, Just-the-beginning!
Which is your favourite style, and why?
I love the Mini Elati Hobo, is just Tigerlily in a bag - soft, understated details and amazing quality.
Are you looking to expand into other leather goods categories in the future?
I think is important to keep and open mind and listen to the Tigerlily customer. Leather is an important component of our collection, but I believe it needs to complement our fabrics and texture to make sure is in line with the Tigerlily aesthetic.
Who has been the biggest influence in your career and the way you approach your work?
I have many people who have influenced my career… I have been lucky enough to work with incredible talent who have taught me more than the trade! We share the same values and ethics which is quite special.
What advice would you give to aspiring designers?
Work really hard and believe in yourself! Now as a consultant and brand owner I think it's important to take people on your journey, never think you can do it alone - it is incredible what you can achieve with a team of amazing people aligned by one vision or idea. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing an idea come to life and to have a team to celebrate it with.
What are your handbag essentials that you can’t live without?
Phone + Charger, lip balm and lip liner, hair elastics and hand cream (I'm obsessed with Skin Food by Weleda!). Moleskin notebooks and pens, I always have 2 or 3 with me. And I always, always have lego hiding in my bag from my 6 year old son :)
What are your favourite words to live by?
GRATEFUL. That’s definitely my favourite word and one that I live by every day.
